Getting started with Hue
Mooie Focus works as a pomodoro timer on its own. If you want the optional lights feature, here's the one-time setup:
- Open Mooie Focus. The first time you launch the app, the onboarding will offer to connect a Hue bridge.
- Stay on the same WiFi as your bridge. Mooie Focus discovers your bridge over the local network — your phone has to be on the same network the bridge is on.
- Press the physical button on top of your Hue bridge when prompted. This is the round button in the middle. You have about 30 seconds. The first connection needs this button press; later launches don't.
- Pick a light. Mooie Focus will show you the lights your bridge knows about. Choose one to use during sessions — this is the light Mooie Focus will warm up and cool down at the start and end of each pomodoro.
Bridge not found?
- Confirm your phone and the Hue bridge are on the same WiFi network — not on a guest network, an IoT network, or a captive portal.
- If you're on a corporate or hotel network with client isolation, bridge discovery will fail. Try a home network.
- Power-cycle the bridge (unplug for 10 seconds, plug back in) and try again once its lights are solid.
FAQ
Do I need a Hue bridge to use Mooie Focus?
No. Mooie Focus is a fully functional pomodoro timer without any lights. The Hue integration is optional — if you don't connect a bridge, the lights feature is simply hidden and the rest of the app works the same.
Can I use Mooie Focus without the lights feature?
Yes. Skip the bridge step in onboarding (or never run it) and Mooie Focus is just a focus timer. You can add Hue later from Settings whenever you want.
What does Mooie Focus do with my data?
The short version: nothing leaves your phone unless you've set up the optional webhook. The app has no account, no cloud, and no analytics. For the full breakdown, see the privacy page.
Why doesn't the chime play when my phone is on silent?
iOS routes app audio through the ringer/silent switch by default. When the switch is set to silent, system-respecting audio is muted — including Mooie Focus's chimes. This is intentional iOS behaviour. If you want the chime to play regardless of the silent switch, leave the switch in the un-muted position during a session, or rely on Live Activity / notifications instead.
Why did the Live Activity disappear or get stuck at 0:00?
Live Activities are managed by iOS and can be reclaimed when memory is tight or the activity has been visible for a long time. Mooie Focus refreshes the Live Activity at mode boundaries even when the app is in the background. If you ever see a stale display, opening the app once will resync it.
Can I sync sessions across devices?
Not yet. Mooie Focus stores session history only on the device it was recorded on. iCloud sync may come in a future release; for now, treat each install as independent.
How do I set up the webhook?
In Settings, paste an HTTPS URL into the Webhook field. At the end of each session, Mooie Focus will POST a short JSON summary (start time, end time, mode counts) to that URL. If no URL is set, no webhook fires. The URL and what it does with the data are entirely up to you — Mooie Focus just makes the POST.
